For
Undergraduates (Bachelors/UTME Admissions)
Many people come to Uniben and
naively ask every Tom, Dick and Harry about their challenges with Admission
problems. We find it very funny to see parents roaming around Uniben directed
to several wrong offices in their quest to find out the status of their wards
concerning the 2012/2013 Admission.
Please note that it is only
the University Admission Board (UAB) that has the authentic information
concerning the admission of students into undergraduate or UTME programmes.
The Office of the UAB Chairman
is located at the Main Auditorium of the University of Benin which is facing
the entrance to the University. The UAB Office is at the basement to left
besides the entrance to the Main Auditorium. In case you are in doubt, there is
a Security post inside the Main Auditorium, simply ask the personnel, they will
direct you to the UAB Office.
For
Postgraduates (PGD, Masters and Ph.D. Admissions)
For postgraduate admissions or
issues, the best place for inquiry is to go to the School of Postgraduate
Studies facing the Students Affairs Division behind the Sports Complex of the
main campus of the University.
It is highly advisable to go
and check from the PG co-ordinator for each department before you apply to any
postgraduate course irrespective of what is on the internet.
Firstly, a department may not
be admitting students for a particular session into a particular programme.
This maybe due to the fact that the department has a backlog of postgraduate
students that have not graduated which maybe due to several reasons known to
the department. For instance, the Department of Microbiology did not admit
students into their postgraduate programmes for the 2011/2012 academic session
due to a backlog of students. Imagine if you decide to go to the bank or use
online platform to pay the processing fee for a particular programme before you
find out the department is not admitting. Your money would have gone down the
drain.
Secondly, a department may
change the arrangement of a particular programme for a particular year. This is
done due to the numbers of applications received and the numbers of staffs on
ground (excluding those on leave, sabbaticals, studies, etc). A department may
send a circular to the Postgraduate School for change or adjustment of a
particular programme but that adjustment may not be reflected in the website or
may not be immediately effected by the PG School but it has already been
effective in the respective faculty or department. For instance, a department
may change a part-time PG programme to a full-time or vice versa. You have to
be sure before you apply, because if you are interested in part-time and the
programme has been converted to full-time you may have a problem trying to cope
with you new realities.
It won’t cost you anything to
get the appropriate information from the right sources.
